Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man. Proverbs 3:3-4

August 1 Caleb returns to the US today. We’ve enjoyed a great summer together as a family. Pray for him to have smooth and safe flights and for his bags to arrive back with him.

August 2 Thank you for praying for Colleen as she had vacation time this past month. She returned relaxed and refreshed. She was able to share the gospel many times during her time away from Niger. Pray for Colleen and Kimberly as they continue to meet together.

August 3 We thank the Lord for rain this past month. The farmers are working hard to keep grass and weeds from overtaking their crops. Pray that they will have sufficient physical strength and endurance to make it through each day. Pray that the rains will continue and that the Zerma will see an abundant harvest this year.

August 4 Phil is working with John Kirk and a national partner to begin a course teaching basic leadership principles. Our first two classes have resulted in some interest shown in continuing this, so pray for us as we determine the right timing and scheduling that would allow people to attend.

August 5 Praise God for ten believers who were baptized last month in three different villages. Three of those believers in one village decided to do it at night to avoid persecution. Pray for their spiritual growth and courage to stand firm in their faith where there are so few other believers.

August 6 Pray for encouragement today for Phil and Kimberly. Pray for them as they readjust once again to being empty nesters.

August 7 Pray for our team meeting today. Pray for our time together to be productive and for good fellowship, prayer, and worship. Pray for Phil as he leads our devotional time together.

August 8 Thank you for continuing to lift Caroline and her job situation up to the Father. She has received a small pay raise at both part-time jobs. Pray for her to find one full time job with insurance and benefits in these months ahead.

August 9 Thank you for praying for the three girls who successfully completed the ST4Kids stories at our local Zerma church. The church had a special time for them to each share a Bible story during our Sunday morning worship. They each received a certificate and a children’s Bible in recognition of their accomplishment. Pray for their continued spiritual growth as the kids clubs continue by studying the life of Jesus.

August 10 Pray that Zerma Christians would grow in their understanding and practice of prayer. Pray that they will learn what it means to praise God and offer thanksgiving as well as confess their sins. Pray that they will seek the Lord and take all their fears and concerns to Him.

August 11 The IMB missionary ladies will be meeting for prayer today. Pray for our time together to be encouraging and pleasing to God.

August 12 Pray for laborers who can come and assist with the harvest. With Christians numbering less that one tenth of one percent of the Zerma population, there is still a great need for people to come and help us spread the gospel, disciple believers, and teach and train church leaders.

August 13 Jesus made it clear to His followers that those who seek to live godly lives will suffer persecution. He also said we should bless those who curse us and pray for those who persecute us. Pray for those who are being persecuted, that their faith will be strengthened and that they will respond in a Christ-like manner. Pray for those who are the persecutors, that they may come to know and follow Christ who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

August 14 Pray for wisdom for Kimberly as she continues with teaching the Kids Club at the “G” neighborhood Zerma church. Pray for her as she teaches the life of Jesus with the kids. Pray too as she is considering adding on some separate time for even deeper study and discipleship with the three girls who regularly attend church.

August 15 Pray for Pastor “Adam” and his family as they travel to Adam’s home village for the next couple of weeks. Pray that this would be a time of rest and refreshment for them and especially that they would have opportunities to continue sharing the gospel with Adam’s family and others in his home village.

August 16 Pray for the new staff at Sahel Academy as they arrived in the past couple of weeks. God has provided teachers to fill most of the openings the school had. Pray for their adjustment to Niger, heat, culture, and for God to give them a passion for teaching and a love for their students and their families.

August 17 Caleb will be moving into his dorm room at Williams Baptist College this weekend. Pray for Caleb to get a roommate that will be a good friend and encourager to him. Pray that Caleb will be the same for this young man. Pray for good relationships to emerge from the orientation time.

August 18 Pray for the faculty member who will be Caleb’s advisor. Pray for good communication and understanding as they plan Caleb’s classes for the fall.

August 19 Please continue to pray for Kimberly as she is working on the training for local believers on how to reach and teach children and youth with the Gospel using oral methods. Pray for insight and stories and illustrations that reveal God’s insight and concern for the young people of Niger.

August 20 Pray for our colleagues, Chris and Gen Bartlett, as they continue stateside assignment and as their children begin school in the U.S. this fall. Pray that someone would answer an IMB request for a short-term missionary to join their team in reaching the Dendi people. Also, pray for a volunteer to come next year who will assist them with homeschooling their children: Isaiah, Maria, Shiloh, and Eden.

August 21 Classes begin at Williams Baptist University. Pray for Caleb to enjoy his classes and to set down good study habits at the beginning of the school year.

August 22 Today, Muslims around the world will be observing Tabaski (or Eid al-Adha). On this day Muslims commemorate Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice his son by slaughtering a ram. For many of our friends and neighbors this ritual sacrifice will be a way by which they hope to earn God’s favor. Pray that they will hear and understand the message of the cross and place their hope instead in the lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.

August 23 Please continue to pray for at least one Zerma woman for Kimberly to disciple. God is at work and there seems to be opportunities opening up for this to happen.

August 24 Thank you for praying for our health and that of the Zerma people. We’ve not experienced malaria thus far this rainy season. “Bella” had it but Kimberly was able to provide her with a treatment, so that she recovered quickly.

August 25 This is a difficult time of the year for many Zerma. Food is running out before the next harvest is due. Pray for Phil and Kimberly as they deal with many people coming to their gate who are hungry or have medical needs. Pray for them to have compassion for each individual and for His wisdom on knowing how best to help them.

August 26 Pray for Christian radio broadcasts throughout Niger, that God would use them to speak to the hearts of the Zerma people and to draw people to the truth.

August 27 Pray for the government leaders of Niger. Pray that they will seek to serve their country in honorable ways. Pray that they will be men and women of integrity. Pray that God will grant them wisdom as they make decisions that affect many people.

August 28 Pray for the Kids Club that meets at “Bella’s” home. Their home ( a grass-mat hut) was destroyed in one of the storms we had this rainy season. They’re living out of an unfinished home that the landlord is building on the property. It provides minimum shelter for them, especially during the dust storms and rain. Pray that they will be able to rebuild their home before the end of rainy season.

August 29 Pray that Zerma believers would come to have a love for God’s work whether they read it or listen to it. Pray that they would learn to be obedient to what His word calls them to be and do Pray the same for all of us missionaries as well.

August 30 Pray for another potential kids club that God might be opening a door to meeting near Kimberly’s house. Pray for wisdom and a good place to meet.

August 31 Pray Romans 12:2 for the Zerma believers—ask that they would not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of their minds.
