Be joyful in hope, patient in suffering, and faithful in prayer. Romans 12:12

Dear Prayer Warrior,
You will notice a few of this month’s requests are followed by an asterisk. These are IMB President David Platt’s suggestions for ways to pray for missionaries which can be found at There is also great information on the Week of Prayer for International Missions and the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering.

December 1 Thank you for praying for Phil and Kimberly as they returned to Niger last month. The trip was one of the smoothest we’ve ever had—no real turbulence to speak of, all our bags arrived with us and we were one of the first ones out of the airport! Today we ask that you give thanks to God for keeping us all safe as we travel by air and road.

December 2 Pray that we would be confident to preach God’s Word—not just to do relief work or learn culture well, but to speak truth with boldness, no matter the circumstances. *

December 3 This is the start of the Week of Prayer for International Missions. (Dec. 3-10¬) Join us in praying for IMB missions work around the world. Pray that our churches will have an increased awareness of the importance of prayer in reaching the lost around the world.

December 4 This year, the national goal for the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering is $160 million. We’re grateful for those who give to this offering so that we might live in Niger and minister to the Zerma. This offering provides for our house, our car, and so much more. Thank you! Pray that our churches will give generously so that we can continue to send laborers into the harvest field.

December 5 We’ve had a great time reconnecting with our Zerma friends (both believers and nonbelievers). Pray for us as we continue to share the Good News with those who have yet to believe.

December 6 Pray that the Gospel would be clear through our lives and words and that God would open hearts. *

December 7 “Eve” is a Zerma woman, friend, and neighbor of Kimberly’s. She has 5 children, four boys and a girl, and a husband who is out of work. Please pray for her husband to find work and for her to be open to hearing and believing the Good News.

December 8 Did you know that over 2.8 billion people have little to no access to the gospel? 100% of gifts to the Lottie Moon Christmas offering fund IMB missionaries who are making disciples and multiplying churches among unreached people and places. Pray that those in difficult and hard-to-reach places will have access to the gospel this year.

December 9 Kimberly will be starting her kid’s club back at the church in the “G” neighborhood. Pray for those who came before to come again, as well as kids who have never come before. Pray that this club would encourage more kids to come to the “G” neighborhood church and to choose to follow Jesus.

December 10 Pray for Caleb to finish well this first semester at DBU. Pray for him to remain diligent in his studies. Pray for a clear sense of direction as he is uncertain as to what major to choose.

December 11 Harmattan season is upon us. This is the time of year when a lot of dust blows in off the Sahara Desert, which leaves a copious amount of dust hanging in the air. A lot of Zerma people get respiratory infections and chronic coughs, as well as many missionaries. Pray for the health and well-being of the Zerma and the missionaries during this dusty season.

December 12 We rejoice that a number of new believers have been added to churches and storying groups over the past year. Among these new believers there is a need for teaching and training in how to follow Christ and how to share their faith. Pray for us as we seek to help meet that need. Pray that God would lead us to godly men and women who we can train to teach others.

December 13 Pray that we will be at peace with other believers, that Satan would not have success in attacking families, friends, and ministry partners. *

December 14 One of the difficult things about being away for nearly two years is that often someone we know has died. A young woman neighbor friend of mine (Kimberly) died and left behind a daughter to be raised by her grandmother. Pray for Kimberly as she visits the grandmother that she will have God’s words to speak comfort and hope into this family’s life.

December 15 In the hearts of many, if not most of the Zerma, there is a longing for peace. Peace with their family and neighbors and peace with God as they come under His judgement. Pray that this Christmas season will provide opportunities for them to know the Prince of Peace who is even now reconciling the world to Himself.

December 16 Pray for Pastor “Adam” and for his small boutique that he operates to earn a living. Pray that he will be able to be remain open when people shop and that people would come and flour, sugar, and other items needed for daily life here in Niger.

December 17 As the churches of Niger celebrate Christmas this year with special services, pray that they will be a light to their communities and that all believers will be ready to give an answer for the hope and joy they have in Christ.

December 18 Pray for Phil and Kimberly as they travel to villages and reconnect with people they haven’t seen for a couple years. Pray that we will be an encouragement to the believers. Pray for wisdom as we consider how and where to invest our time in the coming weeks.

December 19 Pray for us to have joy when we suffer, kindness when we are slandered and patience when things are hard. Pray for God to help us persevere—fighting the battle for souls is hard, but it is worth it. *

December 20 Pray for believers in the villages of “S,” “C” and “D.” Pray that their outreach groups will grow to be strong, healthy churches. Pray that as they hear and study the Word, they will follow up in obedience.

December 21 Today is Kimberly Cain’s birthday. Pray for her to be bold in sharing the Good News and for sensitivity to the Lord’s leading in conversations with her Zerma friends.

December 22 Pray for vision for the churches among the Zerma—pray that they will develop a passion for reaching others with the Good News, pray that they will consider how their churches can influence others for the second and third generations and beyond.

December 23 As you pray for the spiritual needs of the Zerma this month, pray also for the physical needs. There are many who are hungry and others who are physically sick with malaria and other diseases. Pray that they will find the resources to meet these needs.

December 24 This Christmas Eve, take a moment to reflect on the miracle that was Jesus’ entry as a baby born in Bethlehem. Pray for the Zerma people to understand the powerful love that God has for them and to walk in His light and truth.

December 25 Merry Christmas! As you celebrate with family and friends, take a moment to pray that the Zerma will know, understand, and believe that Jesus came to earth to establish a way to God and that they might have forgiveness of sins.

December 26 Pray for a young man named “Ned,” who came faithfully to Kimberly’s kids club for many years. He is now joining the older men at the nearby mosque for prayers. Pray that God’s word that has been planted in his heart, would flourish and that he will hear the still, small voice that calls to Him.

December 27 Pray that God would give us success in sharing the gospel with others, that they would see disciples made and churches planted. *

December 28 Pray for “Helen,” Pastor “Adam’s” wife. She has been traveling out to “M” town with other women to witness and share God’s love. Pray that there will be women who come to Christ and that this would be an encouragement to those involved to continue to share the gospel.

December 29 Today is Phil and Kimberly’s 27th anniversary. Pray for them as they minister to the Zerma, that the Holy Spirit would be active on the hearts of those seeking the Truth and that they would have many opportunities to share today. Please pray for them as they will be traveling to a meeting. Pray for the logistics of the trip to go well.

December 30 Pray for “Gus,” a man the Cains and many other missionaries know. Pray for him to reject Islam and come to faith in Christ.

December 31 As we are about to enter 2018, pray for God’s spirit to move across Niger and that 2018 will be a year that sees a multitude of Zerma come to Christ with many new churches planted.
