Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. Proverbs 4:23

April 1 Happy Birthday, April! April, a former Zerma team member, is now married and living and ministering in Niger with her husband Jon. They are expecting their first child later this year. Pray for April’s health and her ministry among the people of Niger.

April 2 Reports of violence and extremism affect us all. Pray that as uncertainty about the future and about safety sometimes looms large, that the Zerma will seek God and the truth regarding salvation. As believers, pray that we will be confident and bold in sharing our faith as our Muslim friends seek answers.

April 3 We (the Cains) had a great time on vacation the last week of March. We enjoyed our family’s first trip to Branson. The highlight was seeing “Moses” at the Sight and Sound Theater; a powerful and moving portrayal of the story of Moses presented in a God-honoring way.

April 4 Please continue to pray for the new outreach groups and churches that have been started over the past year. Pray for a strong and bold witness among their communities, pray for vision to take the gospel beyond their own village, and pray for insight and understanding as they hear and study the scriptures together.

April 5 Kimberly will be sharing about Africa in a local high school 10th grade English class today. Pray for her as she shares about Niger.

April 6 Caroline will graduate from Ouachita Baptist University next month. Her final weeks are very busy. Pray for her as she balances her time among working at the campus library, directing a one-act play for her directing class, projects, and exams.

April 7 Thank you for praying for the Niger presidential elections over the past month. The run-off election between the top two candidates resulted in Mahammadou Issafou being elected president for a second term. The opposition has said they will not recognize the results. Please pray for peace to continue in Niger.

April 8 Pray for unity among the believers in Niger, pray that Muslims will recognize Christians by their love for each other.

April 9 Thank you for praying for my (Kimberly’s) health. I’m on some new medication that the doctor has decided to continue for the next two months. Pray for this medicine to work well and be effective.

April 10 Continue to pray for the Christian programming that is being broadcast through radio, TV, and media devices in Niger. Pray for quality programming with solid and accurate teaching. Pray that these broadcasts will reach large numbers of people in remote areas who might otherwise not have opportunity to hear the gospel.

April 11 As many of you know from past years’ prayer letters, the month of April is the middle of hot season in Niger. In a land that is hot most of the year, “hot season” brings some truly miserable days. Pray for strength and endurance during these hot days, especially for those who must spend a lot of time in their fields (where there is no shade) preparing for planting season.

April 12 Ask God to “create in the Zerma believers a pure heart and renew a steadfast spirit within them.” (Psalm 51:10)

April 13 Sahel Academy will have many teacher needs for the coming 2016-2017 school year. Pray for those whom God is calling to be obedient and come this summer to prepare for the upcoming school year. For more information check out www.sahelacademy.com

April 14 Thank you for praying for Caleb as he traveled to Dallas to work with Mike and Stacey Frank. He did a good job and they made the trip there and back safely.

April 15 According to Islam, God is transcendent and unknowable—it is impossible to have a personal relationship with Him. According to the Bible, we can know God and have a personal relationship with Him through the loving sacrifice Jesus made for us on the cross. Pray that the Zerma will come to a more complete understanding of the character of God and His loving kindness toward us through Jesus Christ.

April 16 Pray for Pastor “Adam” and his wife “Helen” as they serve so faithfully in the “G” neighborhood. They are such a positive witness in their neighborhood. Pray for many open doors among their friends and neighbors.

April 17 Please lift Phil up in prayer today as he will be preaching this morning at the church that has provided their mission house for us to live in while stateside. Pray that he will communicate clearly and boldly the message that God has given him and for the people to be responsive to God’s word.

April 18 This a challenging time of year in Niger as food will be running out before the new planting season begins. Pray for wisdom and discernment among our colleagues as they are faced with overwhelming physical needs of the people around them.

April 19 Pray that the Zerma will experience conviction of their sinfulness before God and that they will understand that no amount of “good works” will be sufficient to ensure forgiveness. As they seek forgiveness, pray that they will hear the gospel and understand forgiveness and redemption can only be found through Jesus Christ.

April 20 Pray for the Zerma who are seeking God and the truth—that they will not be swayed by their families’ ties to Islam. “The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?” (Jeremiah 17:9)

April 21 Pray Jeremiah 17:10 over the Zerma, that “the Lord will search their hearts and examine their minds…” and that the Zerma people’s heart will be softened towards God.

April 22 Pray for a new openness among the Zerma who’ve been resistant to the gospel. As life circumstances change, pray that God will reveal Himself and break down barriers to that resistance.

April 23 Please continue to lift up the Bartlett family. They’ve now been in Niger just over a year and are experiencing their second hot season. Pray for their health and pray for adequate rest for them in this challenging climate.

April 24 Pray for Chris and Gen Bartlett and their four young children. Pray that the Isaiah and Maria finish the school year strong. Pray for Shiloh and Eden as they continue to learn and grow and adapt to life in Niger. Pray for encouragement in their language learning and in their encounters with the people of Niger.

April 25 Pray for God’s Word to go out among the Zerma people. Pray for the messages the pastors preach, the messages on the radio and tv, for the cassettes they listen to, and for reading His Word. Pray Hebrews 4:13 that God’s Word would “judge the thoughts and attitudes of their hearts.”

April 26 Pray for diligence and perseverance among Zerma believers as they experience challenges physically and spiritually. Pray for their spiritual growth.

April 27 Ask God to “set his seal of ownership on the Zerma, and put his Sprit in their hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.” (2 Corinthians 1:22)

April 28 Pray for God to “encourage the hearts and strengthen our fellow missionary colleagues in every good word and deed.” (2 Thessalonians 2:17)

April 29 Pray for Caleb and Kimberly as they continue to homeschool . It is going very well.

April 30 Pray that God would continue to send laborers into the harvest—missionaries and others who will share the gospel, teach, disciple, assist with community development, etc.
